Veteran's Day Closure

The Upton Branch Library will be closed on Thursday, November 11 in observance of Veteran's Day. Veterans Day is a legal holiday in the USA, both state and federal and was declared a National holiday in 1938.

USED BOOK SALE AND LIBRARY SNAPSHOT DAY

Come by the Upton Branch Library for Wyoming Libraries Snapshot Day. We are gathering photos and comments on what the library means to you so everyone can know how important libraries are to everyone. This will represent 'A Day In the Life of Your Library'.

We are also having a used book sale from Tuesday, October 19 through Friday, October 22. Books are very reasonably priced and they all need a good home. The proceeds from these sales allow us to buy needed books and equipment for your library. The sale will be open during normal library hours.

Wyoming Author, Craig Johnson, to Visit Upton Library

Wyoming author, Craig Johnson, will be at the Upton Branch Library on Friday, September 10 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. We will have an informal open house to give the public the opportunity to meet and visit with Mr. Johnson.

Mr. Johnson lives in Ucross, Wyoming (population 25), and has authored six contemporary mysteries set in Wyoming with his main character named, Sheriff Walt Longmire.

Mr. Johnson has had starred reviews in Kirkus, Booklist, Publisher's Weekly and Library Journal. He has won various awards including, the Wyoming Historical Association's Book of the Year, Western Writers of American Spur Award, Mountains and Plains Award for fiction Book of the Year and Publisher's Weekly Best Book of the Year. Some of his titles have been translated into French and now Czechoslovakian.

Please join us for this informal open house and meet the author, Craig Johnson from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10 at the Upton Branch Library.

Reading and Discussion Program of Mexican Literature

Starting in August, the Upton Branch Library will host "Distant Neighbors", a reading and discussion series in the Wyoming Humanities Council's Reading Wyoming program. The first discussion meeting will take place on Thursday, August 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the library meeting room.

To register for this program and borrow books, just stop by the Upton Branch Library.

The first book to be discussed is Laura Esquivel's "Like Water for Chocolate". The book is ready to be picked up, so you have time to read it before the meeting.

There are three other titles in this "Distant Neighbor" series and the other meetings will take place on September 16, October 21 and November 18. The remaining titles in the series include, "Tula Station" by David Toscana, "The Nine Guardians" by Rosario Castellanos, and "The Underdogs" by Mariano Azuela.
