The Concrete Has Been Poured

For everyone who has been wondering when the concrete was going to be poured for the new memorial bench and bicycle rack area, you can stop wondering. The concrete was poured this morning and will look wonderful when it dries.

We have been gifted funds to purchase a bench in memory of the former Upton Branch Manager, MarJean Rinegar. After the concrete is cured we will be placing the bench and purchasing some signage for the memorial bench.

The bench is a wonderful additiion to the front of the Upton Branch Library. The bench was purchased by MarJean Rinegar's daughter in MarJean's memory. MarJean Rinegar was the Branch Manager from 1972 until 1989.

Summer Reading Has Ended

I realize it has been awhile since I have updated this blog. Summer has been very busy at the Upton Branch Library.

Our Summer Reading Program has officially ended as of July 24. For the children signed up for the program, if you have not finished, you may still finish and receive a prize for reading your books. We still have prizes left and if you finish up before school starts you will still be awarded a prize, so keep on reading.

The Upton Branch Library has been donated some used library shelving and we are in the process of rearranging the existing shelving to make room for this additional shelving we are getting. Things are sort of mixed up right now, so if you cannot locate the item you need, please ask us to assist you.

This used shelving should give us an additional amount of shelving for our growing young adult collection. Also we should have more room in our picture book area. Things will be tight but we need the additional shelving for all of the new books we have been able to add in the past couple of years.

Please come by and check out your local library. The book collection is ever changing and has something for everyone. Enjoy your local library.

Summer Reading Program Begins at Upton Branch Library

The Summer Reading Program for children, "Be Creative @ the Library", begins Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Bring your children by the Upton Branch Library and get signed up to begin your Summer Reading fun. Reading requirements are based on the age your child was when school ended. When your child reads the required number of books they will receive a prize. We have several craft and story time programs lined up for children also. When you sign up for the program a schedule is included in the sign-up package.

We will again have our Summer Reading program for adults. Adults include persons aged 16 and over. Adults are required to read 4 books to complete the program and then their name will be entered in a drawing for several prizes to be given away at the end of the program.

We have added a teen program this year for young persons aged 12-15. The teen group will also be required to read 4 books from the young adult or adult area of the library. When the young person has completed their reading requirements their name will be entered in a drawing for prizes to be given away at the end of the reading program.

For our teen group we will have a Teen Book Club that will meet once in June and once in July in the early evening. Our teens will be asked to bring their favorite book and let us know what you like or dislike about it. Snacks will be available at these meetings. Details will be available when our teens sign-up.

The Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday, May 26 and end on Friday, July 24.

More details are available by stopping by the Library or by calling 468-2324.
